Roger has married many a couple at the extraordinary La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes and it never fails to impress. Not only are the views amazing but the staff there is always top notch. From Brian the parking director to Sharla the on site wedding coordinator, always a great team! Plus with Susan as their wedding coordinator, they were in good hands. Aaron and Britny, the wedding couple, who flew in from Missouri for the wedding wanted a light hearted ceremony with lots of laughs and heartfelt moments and boy did they get it! The both of them were cracking jokes thru the entire ceremony trying to make each other laugh and then they both tried to get Roger to break as well… And Roger being the professional that he is, held it together… sort of! Laughs were had all around!
Roger had the honor of officiating the wedding of Jose & Katelyn this last weekend at the most amazing La Venta Inn, a beautiful wedding venue and (a little bit of history) the first home built in Palos Verdes ! This wedding location has an amazing view of the ocean and expansive views of the coastline and what not better way to celebrate of this beautiful view and their wedding, but with a white dove release ! For as long as time, the white dove has been has been a symbol of peace, love and new beginnings… And at the end of the ceremony, Jose & Katelyn opened the beautiful cage and released the two doves who would now fly home together as a couple for doves stay together for life. And you could easily spot the male dove because he was the one not following directions home. The female dove had stopped talking to him as well!
One of the nicest couples Roger has married, Scott & Anete got married this last weekend at the beautiful La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes. The day was beautiful, they are a loving couple and the wedding was a blast! A great ceremony overall!
The couple sent these lovely words to Roger:
"Thank you so much! Anete and I are still in awe of what an amazing job you did. Not only did you make it on time right after a car accident (hope everything is okay) but you jumped right in to truly blow away our expectations for our ceremony (which were already very high after getting to know you beforehand). During the reception everyone we talked to gave you glowing reviews and could not believe we hadn't known you for years. You gave us a ceremony that Anete and I as well as our guests will never forget and we can't thank you enough!
We'll send you over some pictures as soon as we get them in and we'll have to catch up at M Street when we get back from Maui.

Fog obscures the Pacific Ocean view at La Venta in Palos Verdes, but the bride Marianne shines with celestial beauty, and her new husband, Dr. Mirko Villanueva, looks pretty good too. Great Officiant minister Dr. Gary Barmore met with the couple in his home and then captured their love and joy in the beautiful ceremony.

Laura and Michael tied the Knott at Quiet Cannon Golf Course in Montebello. This is a great location for weddings as they have a big gazebo and their outdoor wedding are provides privacy.
Laura and Michael asked Octavio to incorporate the sand ceremony and the arras ritual. Their sand colors were grey and purple which made a beautiful combination they can use as a decoration for their home. This is something we always recommend couples think about when picking their sand colors. They don’t necessarily have to be your wedding colors.
Christine & Robert tied the Knott at La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes. Octavio told us this is the most spectacular venue he has officiated at. The views are out of this world gorgeous as you can see from the picture below. Christine’s daughter found this venue and told her mom, “you must get married here!”.
The ceremony was beautiful! Octavio wrote a portion of the ceremony along with Christine acknowledging her children and Robert’s children. We love acknowledging the couples’ loved ones in my ceremonies. It’s always a beautiful thing to do!
Roger officiated a beautiful wedding for Haoming & Jennifer at the La Venta Inn in Palos Verdes this last Saturday and although it was very overcast, everybody believed that we wouldn’t get rain for this outside wedding because seriously……rain in July during a 14 year drought? No way !
Well in the middle of this amazing, touching wedding, just as they were reciting their vows to each other, down came the rain….hard…. Everybody froze. The bride and groom turned to Roger with the look, should we stop? Roger looked right back at them and whispered, “heck no!” So the bride, groom, Roger and the entire wedding party and guests stayed right there in the rain and not two minutes later, it stopped and the sun came out.
It was a one of a kind wedding and the bride & groom were so thankful that Roger made the call to continue….. like Roger just knew that it would stop raining and all would be okay!!!
There are two types of vows couples utilize in their wedding ceremony. Repeated vows they repeat after the Officiant or the couple’s own vows that they have written.
The repeated vows are the simplest to do and can be customized any way the couple wants.
They are repeated in 1 to 4 word blocks to make it easy to follow.
When a couple wants to do their own vows I recommend that they follow these suggestions to make it amazing.
1. Do a short repeated vows to lead into their personalized words.
2. Don’t write promise vows, “I promise this and that” because no one keeps their vows and also everyone had heard it all before.
3. Instead of vows write your story. Like any good story use beginning middle and end. ” when I first met you I felt this way”, ” our life together has been this”, ” our future is this”.
This way it is a story you know. It comes off more genuine.
4. Make them the same length. Set a word or length together so it does not sound lopsided.
5. Don’t hand write it. Type it on the computer and print it on to card stock so it doesn’t flap in the wind or make crinkle sounds.
6. Best way to do it is to print it onto a nice peace of paper in a not too scripty font and place it in a picture frame.
Whee it it time for your vows the officiant will hand you the frame and you can read it off the frame. Then place them on the cake table for your guests to see and then you can hang them on your wall at home.
No matter how you decide to do your vows make them special to you.
