Your Marriage License is basically the County giving you permission to get married. Once you obtain the Marriage license you have 90 days from the issue date to get married.

The Information below will show you what you need to know and what documents to bring with you before you apply for a Marriage License in California.

We recommend getting your license out of the way about a month before your wedding date so you don't have to worry about it at the last minute.

GET A LICENSE

There are 3 ways to get a Marriage License.

 

1st Go to your Local County Clerk's office and stand in line for 15 minutes to an hour and a half and obtain your license. Most are open Monday thru Friday from 830am to 3pm

 

2nd If you are getting married in LA County... We can Issue you the license in our Long Beach Office. It is a simple process and will take 15 minutes. We can do this 24/7

 

3rd If you are getting Married in LA County we can deliver the Marriage license to you at any location. We are available to do this 24/7

WHAT YOU NEED

The Couple MUST appear TOGETHER.

 

Both MUST be over 18. If under 18 a court order must be obtained.(this type of license can only be issued by the County)

 

MUST have current valid identification.

 

If in the last two years you were previously married or in a domestic partnership, a copy of your divorce decree, annulment decree or death certificate or SDRP termination will be required.

 

The purpose of identification presented by individuals purchasing a marriage license is twofold: namely, to prove the individual is who he/she claims to be and that he/she is of legal age to marry in this state.

ID REQUIRED

A valid government-issued, picture identification is required to verify name, age, and identity; and any other document that may be applicable for the issuance of a marriage license (e.g. adoption papers, superior court name change, etc.). Before coming to the County Clerk's Office or having us issue the license, call and explain your specific situation in detail.

 

The following forms of identification are meet both photo and birth date.

Each Person Must bring one of the following

 

ALL IDENTIFCATION MUST BE CURRENT AND NOT EXPIRED.

EXPIRED ID WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED IN ANY CASE

 

   Driver's License issued by any State in the US (international Driver Licenses not accepted)

 

   California ID or other US State Identification Card

 

   Military service or Military Dependent Identification Card

 

   Naturalization Certificate

 

   United States Passport

 

   International Passport

 

   Alien Registration Card (formally known as a Green Card)

 

   Matricula Consular

(Will be acceptable only if all of required information is on card, such as date of birth and picture. A birth certificate is required with every Matricula Card accepted and all birth certificates must be translated into English, no exceptions. If we issue you the marriage license, two additional credible witnesses will also be required with acceptable ID to sign the notary book to attest to the identity of the holder of the Matricula Consular).

 

If you do not bring the appropriate documentation you will NOT be issued a marriage license.

 

WHAT YOU DO NOT NEED

 

The Following Items are NOT needed to get a Marriage License

 

A blood test or health certificate is NOT required to obtain a marriage license.

 

There is NO residence or citizenship status requirement.

 

You do not need to live in California, Los Angeles or the United States to qualify for a marriage license.

 

Anyone from anywhere in the world with proper Identification can marry in California.
