Same sex marriage

A Cute Little Ceremony in Our Cute Little Wedding Chapel

Djedje & Terence & A Mauricio
Terence confided that initially his fiancé, Djedje, had some concerns when scheduling an appointment in early November with Great Officiants to have their Marriage solemnized at the Cute Little Wedding Chapel on Atlantic Avenue.  He was concerned that they might be confronted by someone with attitudes to same-sex marriage similar to those held by a certain Kentucky county clerk. Both grooms, however, were relieved upon meeting A. Mauricio Lubong who, without hesitation, cheerfully accepted their License and afterwards counted it a personal pleasure to officiate their Wedding.

A few days after their ceremony, the newlyweds submitted an online review that started with, “A.Mauricio was a wonderful official. He was funny and made us feel at ease on this stressful day;” and concluded with “A.Mauricio was great and I would recommend him to anyone getting married.”

An Intimate Wedding at Home with Wesley

IMG_3245
From the moment I spoke with this inspirational couple over the phone and learned that we were all from the same part of Texas, I knew how much of an honor and blessing it would be to officiate their wedding. Michael and Richard met and fell in love over 31 years ago in Lubbock, TX. It only seemed fitting they finalized their relationship through marriage when Texas and the rest of the nation recognized their union.

They had a beautiful, intimate wedding at their home in Eagle Rock amongst their close friends, loved ones, and most of their neighbors! There were so many emotions running through everyone in attendance, but Richard and Michael could hardly hold back their tears even before we began. As they walked down the aisle together, they held each other’s hands and were strong for each other because they were trembling with emotion. Right as their ceremony began, their dog Austin, an adorable little dachshund, starting barking to show his support for his two Dads!

Once the ceremony was over, everyone leapt to their feet, yelling and cheering for the newlyweds. And then, the Texas BBQ came out. No one had to ask me twice to stay for this part of the evening as I saw the ribs and brisket placed on the table. As the sun set and candles were lit all around the tables, I could see and feel the warmth and love not only from Richard and Michael’s friends, but the love that had blossomed over the years for each other.

Alan Katz Profiled in the LBGLCC Member Feature

The Long Beach Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce had me as a guest speaker in this months meeting and interviewed me for this nice profile for their newsletter.

(null)

I recently met with Alan Katz, owner of Great Officiants for 11 years now. After speaking with him for a little while about his business, we chatted for just about an hour on life in general. Let me start by describing Alan.

Alan is like that cousin or uncle you know that has a joke about everything. I think he even had one when the topic of funerals came up. In other words, Alan is that guy that can break the ice in any situation because he is comfortable in his own skin and likes to see you smile. With a background in the entertainment industry, I can totally see why. Ever seen the movie, The Big Lebowski? (True Story) Alan is an officially ordained minister of the "Church of the Latter Day Dude" or a "Dudist Priest!"

So if you were to have him be any part of your event, having fun or getting what you want would be the least of your worries. Want traditional? He does that. Want something a little more creative, or off center? Alan is adaptable. Want a Star Wars/Harry Potter fusion wedding? Just ask to see some of his pictures 🙂

Speaking of events, that's his business. When two people get married there needs to be a licensed officiant to perform the ceremony and certify it. In addition to providing that, Great Officiants can also take care of the marriage license for you so that you don't have to go down to the City Hall and wait in line.

Need some help with securing a venue or actually planning the details of the event? Great Officiants can handle that too! They have an onsite chapel for a small, private ceremony, and several beach locations in Southern California too.

Did you know that there was a recent law change in California? If you want a confidential marriage license, you can apply for it anywhere you live instead of having to get it from the county where your ceremony will be. There are 29 officiants that work with Great Officiants: anything from the religious (Priests, Rabbis, Ministers), to the non-denominational.

They are a one stop shop for all your wedding event needs. In a wedding industry that has a lot of competition, Alan confidently asserts that "there is always someone biting at my heels, so I've just got to get bigger boots."

There are 4 services they offer:
Marriage Licenses (instead of going to the county courthouse)
Wedding Chapel (a place to have your wedding)
Wedding Officiant (perform ceremony)
Event Location and Coordination on the beach locations (full service A to Z wedding taken care of by Great Officiants)

Alan spoke at our January lunch at The Federal Bar and had a great perspective on building your business. He has over 1000 positive online reviews for Great Officiants. Imagine what it would do for your business if you had that many positive reviews online! His tip for that is to ASK for the review.

However, the methodology is important. For example a Yahoo or Google review you can give them the direct link to your page. Yelp is much different and as Alan says, "Yelp Sucks!" You'll have to direct them to Yelp.com and have them search for your business within Yelp in order to leave a review. Just make sure you're asking for a review from someone who is likely to give you a good one!

"All couples deserve the wedding of their dreams." –Alan Katz

Catholic style wedding ceremonies for same-sex couples

IMG_2928.JPG

As one of the leaders in performing ceremonies for same-sex couples one of the things that we have to offer is the ability to provide a Catholic style ceremony utilizing a former Catholic priest.
Our Father Geoff, in addition to being a major advocate in the marriage the quality movement he also performs many ceremonies for our same gender couples.
Same-sex couples who were raised Catholic still want to have a ceremony steeped in there belief.
This is something were happy and honored to do. Here is a wonderful review that we received from one of our Catholic same-sex couples posted on the Knot.

An absolute pleasure! 11-12-2014

We are so grateful that we found Great Officiants. We were having a difficult time as a same sex coupe trying to find a Catholic priest to marry us. Great Officiants made our dreams come true and put us in touch with Father Geoff. I emailed Alan Katz late one evening, and he called me back in a matter of minutes. Within hours, we were speaking to Father Geoff. Father Geoff was always available to us and went above and beyond the what he was contracted to do. Father Geoff was genuinely invested in our wedding. Thank you Alan and Father Geoff!..

Frank has a double

Congratulations to Gena Soto & Candice Villarreal on their October 10, 2014 wedding at the Wilson Creek Winery in Temecula, CA.  It was a beautiful evening, although we started a little after sundown and didn’t have much light.  However, the couple lite up the area with the glow of happiness and smiles that were radiating from their faces!

Congratulations to Lenore Strum & James Skydell on their October 12, 2014 wedding at the Il Ceilo restaurant in Beverly Hills, CA.  It was a small intimate ceremony in the courtyard of the beautiful award-winning Beverly Hills restaurant.  Although the ceremony was a short ceremony, it wasn’t short on “classiness!”

Duke’s Malibu: Beth with another very Happy Couple!

Our Great Officiant and Beach Coordinator Beth officiated a wonderful ceremony at Duke's in Malibu over the weekend.

This says it all !!!

From the couple:

Aloha Beth!

Thank you for your kind message and for everything that you did to make our wedding so special.

From your advice about and care with the ceremony, to your patience and attention to detail with the GORGEOUS centerpieces (exactly what I envisioned!), to the beautiful orchid leis, and the cake flowers – the stunning orchid arrangement you created made my wedding cake dreams come true! We could not be more happy!

Truly. Since Saturday evening I have been reflecting on the perfection of our wedding day. I don't use that word lightly. Perfection may be a nebulous entity, but all of us at this joyous celebration came together and achieved perfection. I'm not always easy to please, but I couldn't be more pleased. And we are so very grateful for the part you played in all of this dear Beth. We can't thank you enough.

Our hearts and lives will always be open to you and your wonderful warm laughter; we would love to stay in touch.

Mahalo nui loa! The best to you now and always!

Warm regards,

Michael & Michael
