The Ketchup Packet That Almost Ruined the Wedding at the Oviatt Penthouse in Los Angeles

ketchup1
I never imagined that a packet of ketchup would end up being part of a wedding ceremony. But if you know me somehow it was bound to happen.
I arrive to the Oviatt Penthouse about an hour and a half early. I had a fairly complex ceremony so I wanted to make sure that everything was set and ready.

As I pull up, the wedding party is outside taking pictures. I go up to greet them and see panic in all of their eyes and look at the bride dress to see a bunch of red splotches on the bottom.

Apparently, accidentally as they were crossing the street, the groom stepped on a packet of ketchup that squirted all over the bottom of her dress.

Quickly her bridesmaids and coordinators worked get the stain out of which they were successful doing so with a combination of shout wipes, tide pens and soda water.

I knew I couldn’t let this go by without mentioning it somehow in the ceremony, so I went on the search in the neighborhood to find a packet of ketchup. I finally found one at a 7-11 around the corner. I put it in my pocket to save it for just the right moment.

Their guests were so much fun to work with and were looking to have a good time. I did not disappoint.

We did the ceremony underneath a Chuppah, which I explained to their guests its significance.

The ceremony was a Christian – Jewish combo ceremony. It included first Corinthians and the blessings over the wine and the challah which I did in both English and Hebrew.

They read their own beautiful vows to one another, and at the end of the ceremony, I was about to pull out the glass to be crushed but instead I pulled out the ketchup packet. They both laughed uncontrollably as well as their wedding party. It’s a moment that I know was talked about lovingly throughout their reception.

Then I pulled out the actual glass to be crushed in its pouch  and with the 3-2-1 countdown, he stomped the glass whereupon everybody shouted Mazel Tov!

Then they kissed and made their way down the aisle.

This is one wedding I know I will never forget.

A Perfect Wedding

rogerkarelandlisa
Roger had the honor of marrying Karel & Lisa this last weekend at the one of a kind, amazing, art deco Oviatt Penthouse in downtown Los Angeles.  This amazing venue is not only historic but absolutely beautiful as a wedding venue.  Roger has officiated there many times and it still takes his breath away…..  And speaking of taking breath away, this wedding Roger had one very nervous groom on his hands.  So not only did Roger keep him calm, but officiated a perfect wedding and kept him happy to boot !

Roger we want to thank you from the bottom of our hearts for being a big part of our wedding. It was absolutely beautiful and hilarious what you wrote. We couldn’t of asked for a better officiant and ceremony. We hope to see you soon at one of your shows. Take care and God bless.
With love,

Lisa and Karel

A Roller Coaster Ride of Emotions with Woody at the Oviatt Penthouse

SAM_1679
Woody recently had the honor of officiating the wedding ceremony of Dominique and Elvin at the historic art deco Oviatt Penthouse which opened in 1928 and has since been renovated to it’s original charm. At one time, this was the tallest building in Los Angeles. As you can see from the photos, this is no longer the case.

Woody’s ceremony included the couple’s courtship story, a Hand Blessing, as well as he Bride and Groom doing their own vows which made each other tear up, as well as Woody and the Guests. To add to this was a string quartet which included two of Elvin’s Friends from work.

The photo of Woody and our couple after the ceremony show the emotion exhaustion of the ceremony. A Guest said to Woody afterwards: “Your ceremony was like a roller coaster…….I laughed, I cried, and then I wanted to do it all over again.”

Bride Gives Groom the 3rd degree before their wedding…. Burn not questions. OUCH!!!!!

Amanda and Allan were planning their wedding perfectly. They have everything set. The food, the music, the Oviatt Penthouse and of course the Greatest of all Officiants ME.a couple weeks before the wedding she was cooking him a special meal of king crab legs. He was very excited about this as it is one of his favorites. Unfortunately she accidentally tipped over the pot of boiling water on to his leg causing third-degree burns. So bad that he had to get skin grafts.

But on the wedding night he was nothing but smiles. Nothing could stop him from marrying the woman of his dreams.

this was my last ceremony of the year so I pulled out all the stops. They are big football fans so I wrote a whole reading on how Love was like football. I retold their love story and both they and their guests really got into it. It was such a good ceremony that it even blew away their day of planner.

I wish them both a wonderful life together and to steer clear of boiling water.

P.S Afterwards I left and celebrated New Year’s at an amazing Greatful dead concert

A Great Combination at the Oviatt Penthouse in Downtown LA

IMG_0392
I could not have come up with a better combination if I had tried! Brian and Diana got married at the Oviatt penthouse in downtown LA which in itself has the vibe of the 20s.

Their theme song was "I Remember" by Deadmau5! It all matched 100% perfectly! The ceremony was a bilingual Catholic Lite ceremony with the Mothers Rose presentation. When I got to the wedding The DJ told me the couple wanted to be pronounced when their theme song exploded. He and I worked together in figuring out when I would queue him in since the song has a 30 second build up before that part comes. We pulled it off!

Brian and Diana found me through Great Officiants thanks to Brian's mom. We met a week before their wedding, which is more than enough time for any of us to design a beautiful and perfect ceremony for you, and of course the end result was Great!

Brian and Diana thank you guys for making my experience so fun and exciting! You guys are amazing! I wish you all the blessings in the world and all my love!

A Cool Couple at the Rooftop of the Oviatt Penthouse in Downtown LA

IMG_0266
Irene & Jesse are the coolest couple!!! Their wedding took place at the rooftop of the Oviatt penthouse in downtown LA. Because it's a rooftop it can get pretty windy sometimes.

Their marriage license was left on the second level of the rooftop while we did the ceremony. The plan was to go up there after the ceremony to sign it with the witnesses so we could take beautiful pictures. But when we got up there the wind had blown the marriage license away and it was nowhere to be found! The bridal party, photographers, wedding coordinator, bride and groom, and me were looking all over for it like crazy. Eventually One of the bridesmaids spotted it on the roof of the building next door under an AC unit.

We had to send a fire marshal next door to access the roof of the building and get the marriage license which took a while. Throughout this entire process Irene and Jesse remained so calmed and cool about the whole thing. They were not going to let absolutely anything ruin their magical wedding and such a special day! They are awesome!

They also have such an amazing sense of humor! You should've seen them dance to the tune of hip-hop as they were marching out of the ceremony. It was so funny and so beautiful!

The three of us worked together to design a bilingual ceremony, actually I take that back. Irene is a genius with words and she wrote a lot of the ceremony herself. They also wrote their own vows in both English and Spanish!

It is safe to say that I will never forget this wedding! Filled with surprises, love, and much laughter! Irene and Jesse, never change! You are both amazing and I admire you so much! I wish you both all the blessings in the world! Hugs!

PS The Best man took a picture of Jesse proposing to Irene under a waterfall in Arizona and made it the official beer bottle label for all the beers in the wedding! You can see it in one of the pictures. I had never seen something like that and it was amazing!

Octavio Performs a Lovely Ceremony at The Oviatt Penthouse for Jose and Nancy

Jose & Nancy tied the knot at none other than The Oviatt Penthouse in Downtown LA. Surrounded by beautiful skyscrapers this venue is surprisingly quiet, perfect for a wedding ceremony. The entire building has a very 1920’s feel and look.

As you can see, Jose and Nancy looked Spectacular. Their families and friends were all so friendly and dressed the part too!

The ceremony was very moving and there were tears throughout, my favorite! This just shows the love in the air!

Jose & Nancy, thank you for giving me the honor to officiate your wedding!!!! I wish you all the blessings in the WORLD!!!!!
