Two Modern Hindu Fusion Weddings in Northern California for Suvin

20160813_171936

On August 13th, at the Wente Vineyards in Livermore, Rad and Piper tied the knot in a beautiful traditional/fusion Hindu Ceremony. The ceremony started with a traditional Baraat, where Radha rode her bicycle from the entrance of the Winery to the tent where the ceremony would take place. It was an amazing show, as there were almost 400 guests involved in the baraat and ceremony.

In front of the tent, I lead a prayer. I asked everyone to be seated, and then performed the ceremony. The ceremony was very traditional, complete with a prayer to Ganesh, the Mangal Mantras, the Hastmelap, or joining of the hands, the Chedda Chedi, or tying of the knot, Jai mala, or exchange of garlands, the exchange of the Mangalsutra, the Vivah homa, or sacred fire, with the Mangel Fera, or circling of the fire. They had some traditional repeated vows and a ring exchange, and ended the ceremony with the seven steps.

This beautiful melding of cultures was exciting to be a part of. I made sure both brides and their families were represented, and were happy with the traditions being honored. At the end of the day, it is all about what the couple wants, it is their ceremony, and it is a celebration of their love.

Rad and Piper were thrilled to have the ceremony of their dreams come to life.

After performing the ceremony, I drove an hour and a half north, to Sacramento, where the next ceremony would take place the next day.

On August 14th, Aashika and Alex were married at the beautiful Grand Island Mansion in Walnut Grove. Surrounded by family and friends, I was able to incorporate Alex’s Greek and Celtic heritage within the Hindu ceremony.

I began the ceremony with a prayer to Lord Ganesh, to bless the marriage. I then recited the Mangal Mantras, or prayers to the planet Mars, which represents strength and passion. I incorporated the standard I dos, and they both gave the right answer :).

The bride’s parents then came up and joined us for the Brahma Vivah, or the water ceremony. Aashika’s parents poured water into Alex and Aashika’s palms, symbolizing the passing of family heritage to the next generation. We then performed the Vivah Homa and Mangal Fera, the fire ceremony and the circling of the fire.

To honor Alex’s Greek Orthodox culture, I placed the crowns, or stefana, on their heads. To honor Alex’s Celtic background, we performed a hand fasting ceremony, where the two were bound by the cord of love.

They exchanged some beautiful personalized vows, and performed the ring exchange.

They performed the seven steps, and I removed the crowns. I pronounced them married, and they took their walk down the aisle.

Aashika made these beautiful programs shaped like a fan, and had these kind words to share:

A Lovely Ceremony at the Muckenthaler Mansion in Fullerton

20150919_174006_resized
David and Liz’s wedding at the Muckenthaler Mansion in Fullerton was simply lovely.  We scheduled a rehearsal ahead of time, which gave us the opportunity to run through the ceremony and ensure that Liz and David and their entire wedding party (quite a bunch!) knew exactly what to expect the next day. Working with their wedding coordinator Sara was great!

The Muckenthaler Mansion was really beautiful, especially with all of the flowers and wedding decor.  There were different areas for wedding, appetizers and cocktails, and dinner and dancing.

I very much enjoyed getting to know this sweet couple and hearing about their relationship and what brought them to this point.  I was also glad to spend some time getting to know their parents and hearing a little bit more about the Korean culture and unique wedding celebrations.

Blessing to both David and Liz and their families as they begin their new life together as a married couple!

Magical Harry Potter themed wedding at the Victorian in Santa Monica.

When Carol and Clint told me about their ideas for their wedding at the Victorian I was all over it. They wanted to do a wedding with some Harry Potter elements in it. They obtained an official Harry Potter wand which I waved over their hands as part of the ceremony. Instead of your traditional unity candle they did a unity lantern. While none of them were dressed up they did have some flair. Each gentleman had a badge from Hogwarts.

I told them that I would dress up just a bit to bring a little bit of the magic feeling to the occasion. They were very happy I did but then how could I not dress up because that's what I do. I added my own special twists and created something that they will never forget.

Exchange of Wedding Garlands a highlight of this ceremony.

Today's ceremony between Jessica and Phu had many different things incorporated into the ceremony at the Muckenthaler.

In addition to the traditional vows, I do's and ring exchange we added a couple prayers.
They also read some personal comments to each other about their relationship and then exchanged these beautiful garlands.

The garlands represented strength and beauty. The string is the cord that holds them together the beauty of the flowers that adorn them.
I related that to their relationship as their love for each other is the string that will hold their beautiful relationship together.

The ceremony closed with a beautiful kiss and the recessional back down the aisle.

Greystone mansion was a beautiful place to celebrate a wedding

Matthew and Scarlet wanted to do a very simple wedding but at a very beautiful place. They chose the Greystone mansion in Beverly Hills. With sweeping vistas of the city and beautiful backdrops at every turn this seemed to be the perfect place. A simple set up of chairs was all they needed. The ceremony took place in front of a beautiful fountain.
The ceremony, while simple, was very heartfelt. After the ceremony they took pictures in various places around the property and then their reception Took place at the famous Lawry's prime rib.

Intercultural wedding at the Greystone Mansion by A. Mauricio

Sabrina's and Adi's Intercultural (Israeli/Argentine/Italian) Wedding at the Greystone Mansion, officiated by A.MAURICIO, this past September was like the set of a fashion shoot or a stylish movie.  Their guests, as well as both the bride and groom and their families who walked them down the aisle, were in dressed in white.  Being near the Jewish New Year, their color scheme was apropos as white represents leaving behind the past and starting fresh or new beginnings.  In fact, according to tradition, for the "Kalla"/Bride and "Chatan"/Groom the day of marriage is considered a personal Yom Kippur which is the culmination of the Jewish New Year.
