El Matador Beach Wedding in Malibu.

One of my favorite spots in Malibu is El Matador State Beach. it’s not the easiest beach to get to but it’s worth the climb.

Just a few miles past Zuma Beach there’s a small parking lot. If you’re lucky enough to get a spot on the first time around consider yourself lucky. Otherwise you can park up on Coast Highway.

You start on the trail at the end of the parking lot and make your way down to the first set of stairs. Make sure that you are wearing footwear as there’s lots of rocks along the way. Once you go down the first set of stairs there’s a path that’s rather flat that will take you to the second set of stairs and those will take you down to the beach.

It’s very important when you go to the beach to check out the tide charts first. If it is a high tide there will be no beach at all so plan to be tide during the low tide or at least mean tide.

There are lots of beautiful rocks jutting up out of the water. The big rock we call The Bull (that’s why it’s called El Matador) is my favorite place to do Ceremonies.

I draw a heart in the sand and have them step inside with their family surrounding them.

Today Ken and Angela flew in from Chicago with their family to get married on the beach. They have never been to California before and they loved this spot.
In the ceremony they each read their own vows to each other and with their children did a sand blending ceremony. I closed the ceremony with them and the kids giving each other a big hug and doing the hokey pokey. Everybody left. They loved it and the kids loved it.

If you’re looking for a great place to do a beach wedding and you just have a few people this is a great option.

A Perfect Day For A Wedding

2newlandroger
The Newland Barn in beautiful Huntington Beach is always a special venue for weddings.  They take great care of their guests and the grounds are always beautiful.  And when you combine in a gorgeous day, you have it all !  And that’s what Dallen and Diana had this last Saturday.  It was like a perfect summer day!  And to top that off, they had the amazing wedding duo team of coordinator Kristen Black of Stop And Stare Events and her husband Dakota who was the DJ.  Combine this with Roger who gave a fantastic ceremony and you had a perfect wedding !

So much that the bride wrote Roger the very next day to share these kind words with him:

Best wedding ever!!!  Thank you so much Roger. You were the biggest hit yesterday and we are so thankful for you!  Thank you again so much for your amazing officiating  🙂

Congratulations to Rocio Ortega & George Fuentes on their February 13, 2016 wedding at the Seaport Marina Hotel in Long Beach, CA

Congratulations to Rocio Ortega & George Fuentes on their February 13, 2016 wedding at the Seaport Marina Hotel in Long Beach, CA.  It was a great day for a wedding.  Even though the ceremony was indoors, it took place in front of huge windows with the harbor as the backdrop.  The setup was not the traditional, as the majority of the guests were seated at their reception tables and about 30-40 close family and friends were seated in chairs arranged in the traditional ceremony fashion.  They incorporated a plant ceremony to symbolize the roots of their relationship and the continued growth of their love, as they became each others’ family.  They know that, like that plant, their marriage will be resilient (and why shouldn’t it be?  They planted a succulent.  Those things are almost impossible to kill!)  With that being said, the ceremony went great and guests were anxious to continue with great food and drink.

What do you get when you combine Rev. Woody, Wedding Coordinator Samantha from La Bella Dia (LaBellaDia.com), Kara from VOX DJ’s (voxdjs.com), Grace from Tea Rose Gardens Florist (tearosegarden.com), and Brooke from Brook Aliceon Photography ( brookealiceon.com)? You get a picture-perfect ceremony.

What if you add in beautiful California weather, Valentine’s Day, and Castle Green (castlegreen.com)? You get a couple’s ULTIMATE DREAM WEDDING!!

This is what Queenie and Joseph basked in on Valentine’s Day at the historic Castle Green in Pasadena. Woody constructed one of his famous interfaith Christian-Jewish ceremonies incorporating elements of both Faiths, including a reading from 1st Corinthians as well as the crushing of the glass.

Check out Woody’s “old-school” selfie in the mirror, as well as the photos of this 117 year old mansion.

Alice in Wonderland themed wedding reception

When Stefanie and Warren hired me perform the ceremony at the Orange County Mining Company, I never knew what big Alice in Wonderland fans they were. they have tons of really cool decorations. So I decided to add some Alice in Wonderland quotes to the ceremony.
I talked about their wedding Wonderland, falling down the rabbit hole to be together and that if he didn’t listen to her it was “Off With His Head”

One of the other things I incorporated into the ceremony was to honor his Native American traditions. I did a burning of the sage also known as smudging. click HERE to learn more about smudging. I use it to cleanse the room of evil spirits or crazy relatives and to bring an aura of peace and happiness to the room.

It was also Great to be able to work with Liz at her first wedding as catering manager at the Orange county mining company.

I love being a Wedding Officiant!!!!

“You Have The Right To Remain Silent………..”

silentroger2
This is how Roger finished his wedding ceremony this last Sunday.  He turned to the groom John and said “You have the right to remain silent.  Anything you say can and will be used against you in the court of marital law.”  Now Roger saying this was not just a standard warning to a new groom, nooooo!  You see, both his bride & groom Jessica & John were on the police force and everyone at the wedding were as well.   So Roger wanted to make sure that this was ceremony tied in to their lives together, so much that just before they walked down the isle, Roger had one more thing up his sleeve…….handcuffs !  Roger handcuffed them together as they took their first steps as husband and wife. Roger realized that he didn’t have the keys to the handcuffs and asked the crowd if anybody had a key for them and EVERYBODY raised their hand !!
