Awesome awesome awesome couple!!! They were so funny from the minute we met. I was entertained by their wit all the way!

Peter & Karissa got hitched at Hotel Maya in Long Beach, one of my favorite venues. From the staff, to the scenic  backdrops the location provides, this place is excellent for weddings and events.

We did a fully bilingual wedding ceremony. I had Karissa do her vows, I do’s, and ring exchange in Spanish and Peter’s in English. When my couples are able to do this it makes the ceremony more balanced, not having more English than Spanish or vice versa.

We also performed the Lasso and Coin ceremonies, a.k.a. Lazo y Arras. We also, to keep the ceremony well balanced, did the coin ceremony in Spanish and the Lasso ceremony in English.

You know you’ve reached a certain level of expertise when one of my groomsmen was also a groomsman at a wedding I officiated a year before! And we were both so happy to be able to do this once again!!!

Wedding at the Ebell Club in Los Angeles

I love doing weddings at the Ebell Club in Los Angeles.

It is a beautiful historic building off of Wilshire Boulevard. Inside it’s many halls lies gorgeous banquet, party and ceremony rooms. The lush interior gardens tie it all together to make it a beautiful space.

Having done several weddings and attended many parties there I know how cool it can be.

At the wedding today Annie and been tied the knot. They met in Alabama in college and tried to have a long distance relationship but realized they needed to be together. They did a special type of sand ceremony during their wedding. There were four bottles of sand. The first bottle was poured my one set of parents  and then the other set of parents poured the rest. The next bottle was poured by me to represent the rest of their family and friends. The final two bottles were poured by each of them joining their life together.

They even brought their dogs and dressed them up.

At the end of the ceremony when he dipped her and gave her a kiss all of their guest screamed with delight.

Then my favorite part at the end was getting the red envelope.

How to do a unity candle at an outdoor wedding ceremony.

How to do a unity candle ceremony outside.

The unity candle is a tried and true addition to many wedding ceremony. It can be beautiful and it can also be terrible. By following a few simple rules you can prevent that part of your ceremony from as we say fizzling out.

If you’re doing a unity candle indoors there’s never usually an issue and you can use any type or shape of candles.  When you light the candle outdoors, it presents several obstacles to take into consideration:

1. The wind is not your friend.

Even the slightest breeze can snuff out the most robust flame.

2.The lighter is not your friend.

Try to use hurricane style candle holders as they block the wind in most cases. Instead of a lighter which never works properly when you wanted to, put a small votive candle in a holder and light the outer candles off of that during the ceremony.

Put the unity candle at the very end of the ceremony this way if it does blow out it’s not out for a long time.

Keep a lighter handy as back up. Make sure that no decorations are placed directly above the candles as they could catch fire.

In the event that you feel that it may be too windy switch to a sand blending ceremony or other type of unity celebration.

With proper planning and precautions, a unity candle celebration can be one of the highlights of the ceremony and if done wrong it will definitely be something that everyone will remember.

Congratulations to Arlene Howard and Frank Olivas on their January 16, 2016 wedding in Riverside, CA

Arlene & Frank O. - 01.16.16
Congratulations to Arlene Howard and Frank Olivas on their January 16, 2016 wedding in Riverside, CA.  It was a relatively small wedding in a private home in Riverside on a beautiful California afternoon.  The guests were very comfortable and settled in and enjoyed the ceremony and “down home” food, drink and music.  Everyone was in the “party mode” from the moment they arrived!  My best goes out to the happy couple and the new Olivas family.

Roger’s wedding this last weekend was top secret !!!  Sort of……. Roger was marrying a really great couple Alonso & Suparsri who wanted a fun and romantic wedding especially since most of their guests were pretty serious people…… You see, both Alonso and Suparsri work for the FBI and so did most of their guests!!  So Roger pulled out all the stops and gave them a wedding ceremony to remember !  There were tears and laughter and not an arrest in the house !  It was perfect !

Jewish Christian interfaith wedding ceremony

Today I performed the wedding ceremony for Steven and Ronit.

it was important for them to be able to honor both of their families beliefs in their wedding ceremony.

while doing an interfaith ceremony it is important for the officiant to know how to make both sides happy and not to alienate either side.

In the Jewish Christian combo ceremony that I have listed on our website it is carefully designed to bring elements of both believes into the ceremony.

I know this may sound weird but during the ceremony when Jews hear the word Jesus it can make them feel uncomfortable. So we use readings from the New Testament such as first Corinthians which speak about love.

We also incorporate some of the Jewish traditions such as the crushing of the glass the seven blessings and the blessing over the wine.

It’s a closed out with a generic prayer sent both the Jews and Christians seems like.

And at the end of the ceremony they kiss joining their lives and their families lives together into one big happy family.

The ceremony table for today’s wedding shown in the picture has the wine for the wine blessing, the ketubah A.k.a. Jewish marriage contract, the glass for crushing and in the background is my Talit that I put over their shoulders for a benediction.
